Use
  • HLG / Rec.2020

    Industry Standard10 stops10-bit recommended
    HDRBroadcastQuick TurnaroundStreaming Delivery

Hybrid Log-Gamma on the BT.2020 container, the pairing ITU-R BT.2100 defines for broadcast HDR. HLG is scene-referred and display-independent, so a single signal renders acceptably on both SDR and HDR displays without a separate SDR master — which is why it is the usual choice for live work where the viewer's display cannot be assumed. This is the standard HLG pairing; the BT.709-container variant exists because some cameras allow the narrower container with the same curve.

    Curve: HLG2015

Hybrid Log-Gamma, developed jointly by the BBC and NHK and standardized in ITU-R BT.2100. It follows a conventional gamma curve through shadows and midtones and switches to logarithmic encoding only in the highlights, which is where the name comes from. That hybrid shape is what lets a single signal render acceptably on both SDR and HDR displays without a separate SDR master. It is scene-referred and display-independent, unlike PQ, which makes it the practical choice for live broadcast where the viewer's display cannot be assumed.

    Gamut: Rec.2020Industry Standard · 2012

Defined in ITU-R BT.2020 in 2012 for ultra-high-definition television; BT.2100 later reused the same primaries for HDR. All three primaries sit on the spectral locus — they are monochromatic — which makes it the widest gamut definable without imaginary coordinates, covering 1.89 times the area of Rec.709. It is a delivery container rather than a capture space. No current display reproduces it in full, so HDR work is typically monitored on a P3 subset and delivered inside a 2020 container.

  • Leica L-LOG / Leica BT.2020

    Manufacturer Default13 stops10-bit recommended
    HDRCinemaHybrid Photo/Video

Leica's log pairing on video-capable bodies from the SL2-S onward. Leica's own reference manual states that current L-Log cameras use ITU-R BT.2020, with only the SL (Typ 601) on BT.709 — so the container is a standard under a manufacturer's name, and linearizing L-Log is the whole of the conversion into a working space. Leica publishes the full parameter set and the conversion in both directions.

    Curve: L-LOG2022

Leica's log curve for video-capable bodies from the SL2-S onward, paired with BT.2020 primaries. It places 18% gray at 0.4353, which Leica's own reference manual records as 10-bit code 445, with 7.0 stops of headroom above it. Leica publishes the full parameter set and the conversion in both directions. Because the paired gamut is a standard rather than a proprietary space, linearizing this curve is the whole of the conversion into a working space.

    Gamut: Leica BT.2020Proprietary · 2022

The color space used with L-Log on video-capable Leica bodies from the SL2-S onward. It is numerically identical to ITU-R BT.2020: Leica's own L-Log reference manual prints the primaries and states that current L-Log cameras use BT.2020, with only the SL (Typ 601) on BT.709. Because it is a standard under a manufacturer's name, no Leica-specific gamut transform exists or is needed — linearizing L-Log is the whole of the conversion.

Style
  • Leica MonochromeMonochrome

One of two pre-configured monochrome Film Style profiles, giving a black-and-white rendering with normal tonal separation.

  • Leica Monochrome High ContrastMonochrome

The harder of the two monochrome Film Style profiles, with markedly stronger separation between light and dark than Monochrome.

  • Leica NaturalNatural

A Film Style color profile with restrained saturation and contrast, rendering color more softly than Standard.

  • Leica StandardNatural

The default Film Style color profile, and Leica’s neutral rendering for JPG capture — the starting point the other profiles adjust away from.

  • Leica VividVivid

A Film Style color profile with heightened saturation and contrast, for a brighter and more emphatic rendering than Standard.
