Anton/Bauer

Anton/Bauer is an American brand of batteries, chargers and battery mounts for broadcast, video and cinema cameras, lighting and monitors, including Gold Mount and V-Mount batteries. Anton Wilson, a cameraman for the ABC television network, and his Cornell University roommate George Bauer, an electrical engineer, founded it in 1970 in Ithaca, New York. The company later moved to Shelton, Connecticut.

The Vitec Group plc acquired Anton/Bauer in 1997. Vitec renamed itself Videndum plc in 2022, and the brand is now run by Videndum Production Solutions, whose American office is in Shelton.

Anton/Bauer developed the Gold Mount, a plate-and-bracket system that attaches a battery to the back of a camera, at a time when operators wore batteries on a belt or over the shoulder. It followed with InterActive digital batteries, which show remaining charge in the camera viewfinder, and the PowerTap port for powering accessories from the battery. The company has received an Emmy for engineering and an Academy Scientific and Engineering Award, and its Salt-E Dog range uses sodium battery technology.
