Blackmagic Design
Blackmagic Design Pty. Ltd.
Blackmagic Design Pty. Ltd. is a privately held Australian company that makes professional video hardware and software, including digital cinema cameras, live production switchers, recorders, converters, film scanners and the DaVinci Resolve application. Grant Petty founded the company in 2001 and remains its chief executive. It is headquartered in South Melbourne, Victoria, with offices in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Its first product, the DeckLink capture card of November 2002, brought uncompressed 10-bit video to Mac OS X systems. The company then grew through acquisitions whose technology now appears in Blackmagic product lines: da Vinci Systems (DaVinci color correction) in 2009, Teranex (video processing and conversion) in 2011, Cintel (film scanners) in 2012, eyeon Software (Fusion compositing) in 2014, and Fairlight (audio) and Ultimatte (blue and green screen keying) in 2016.
Blackmagic announced its first digital film camera, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, at the 2012 NAB Show. DaVinci Resolve, offered as a free version and as the paid DaVinci Resolve Studio, combines editing, color grading, visual effects and audio post-production in one application.
