Canare

Canare Electric Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of cables, connectors, patch panels, cable assemblies, cable reels and fiber-optic transmission equipment for broadcasting and professional audio-visual installations. Kimio Kawamoto founded the business in Nagoya in September 1970 as an electrical contractor installing sound systems in schools, hotels and wedding halls, and incorporated it as Canare Electric Co., Ltd. in February 1974. The company is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Canare opened a U.S. sales company in Los Angeles in 1983 and has since set up subsidiaries in South Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore, India, Germany and the United Arab Emirates; Canare Corporation of America is based in Totowa, New Jersey.

Its first products for broadcast and stage were a multichannel audio snake cable (1974) and a low-noise microphone cable for fixed installation (1981). For video, Canare introduced a true 75-ohm BNC connector in 1987 and video patchbays in 1989, followed by electrical-optical converters and hybrid fiber-optic (HFO) camera cables in 2003.
