Leitz

Leitz Cine GmbH is a German company that designs and manufactures cine lenses sold under the Leitz name, with its headquarters and production at Leitz-Park in Wetzlar. Andreas Kaufmann, chairman of the Leica Camera AG advisory board, founded it in 2008 as CW Sonderoptic, short for Cine Wetzlar Sonderoptic. In 2018 it was renamed Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH, trading as Leitz Cine Wetzlar, and on October 1, 2024 it took its current name.

Leitz Cine and Leica Camera AG are separate companies, although both trace their history to the original Ernst Leitz company and share the Leitz-Park campus; American Cinematographer named Kaufmann as the owner of the cine company in 2018.

Its first lenses, the Leica SUMMILUX-C primes, were designed by Iain Neil and André de Winter, who received an Academy Scientific and Engineering Award for them. The company also developed the SUMMICRON-C and the large-format THALIA lines, joined the L-Mount Alliance in October 2021 and introduced HEKTOR lenses for mirrorless cameras in September 2025.
