Nextorage Corporation
Nextorage Corporation is a Japanese company that develops, designs, makes and sells storage media: CFexpress Type A and Type B cards, SD and microSD cards, card readers, internal and external SSDs, and storage for industrial equipment. It was established on October 1, 2019, by engineers and staff from Sony's memory storage business, and is based in Kawasaki, Kanagawa. Katsuyuki Honda is its president and CEO.
Nextorage began under Sony Storage Media Solutions Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, and in June 2020 Phison Electronics, the Taiwanese maker of NAND flash controllers, announced plans to take a 49% stake. In January 2022 Phison acquired Sony Storage Media Solutions' shares in the joint venture, and Nextorage became a Phison subsidiary.
The company designs its memory cards for camera and camcorder recording and adapts media developed for broadcast and film production to industrial uses. It sold only Type B cards in the CFexpress family until December 2023, when it introduced its first CFexpress Type A cards, the VPG400 NX-A1PRO and VPG200 NX-A1SE series, a format used by Sony's Alpha cameras.
