Novoflex
NOVOFLEX Präzisionstechnik GmbH
Novoflex Präzisionstechnik GmbH is a German maker of photographic accessories based in Memmingen, Bavaria. Karl Müller Jr., a photo and radio dealer in Memmingen, started the business in 1948 by building reflex housings for Leica rangefinder cameras, sold first as Reproflex and from 1950 under the Novoflex name. In 1996 the company changed ownership: Reinhard Hiesinger, who had trained and worked at Novoflex for 30 years, founded Novoflex Präzisionstechnik with two partners, acquired the name, tools and machinery, and moved production to Brahmsstraße in Memmingen.
Its range covers macro bellows and focusing racks, ball heads, tripods, quick-release systems, panorama equipment and lens mount adapters.
From 1956 Novoflex made follow-focus telephoto lenses that focused by squeezing a pistol grip instead of turning a ring; they were used for sports and wildlife photography until autofocus became practical in the 1990s. The MagicBall ball head followed in 1996 and the modular QuadroPod tripod in 2008. In 2009 Novoflex began making adapters for mirrorless systems, starting with Micro Four Thirds, and in 2016 its SL/EOS adapter passed data between Canon EF lenses and the Leica SL.
