RØDE

RØDE is the brand of Freedman Electronics Pty Ltd, an Australian company that designs and makes microphones, wireless audio systems, headphones, audio interfaces and podcast production consoles. Henry and Astrid Freedman founded Freedman Electronics in Sydney in 1967, after emigrating from Sweden, to design, build and service loudspeakers, amplifiers and other audio equipment. Their son Peter Freedman took over the business after Henry's death in 1987 and launched the RØDE brand in 1990 with the NT1 condenser microphone.

The company is headquartered in Silverwater, Sydney, and belongs to The Freedman Group, its privately owned parent company. The group's other audio brands are Mackie, acquired in 2023, Aphex, Event, SoundField and Lectrosonics, the New Mexico wireless microphone maker acquired in 2025.

For video production, RØDE introduced the VideoMic in 2004, which it describes as the first compact on-camera shotgun microphone. The RØDELink digital wireless system followed in 2015 and the Wireless GO compact wireless microphone system in 2019.
