SanDisk
Sandisk Corporation
Sandisk Corporation is an American flash memory company based in Milpitas, California. It designs NAND flash technology and makes solid-state drives, embedded storage, memory cards, USB flash drives, and flash wafers and components. Eli Harari, Sanjay Mehrotra and Jack Yuan founded it in 1988 as SunDisk; it became SanDisk in 1995 and went public on Nasdaq that year.
Western Digital acquired SanDisk in May 2016. In February 2025 Western Digital separated its flash business as a standalone public company, Sandisk, which trades on Nasdaq under SNDK; in December 2024 the company had adopted a new logo and the "Sandisk" spelling. Sandisk produces flash wafers with Kioxia through the Flash Ventures joint ventures in Yokkaichi and Kitakami, Japan, and runs its own assembly and test operations in Penang, Malaysia.
In photography, SanDisk specified and first manufactured the CompactFlash card in 1994. In 2010 it proposed, with Sony and Nikon, the PCI Express-based card format that became XQD. Its SanDisk Professional brand covers drives for photo and video production.
