Overview

The Cooke S8/i 35mm T1.4 Cinema Lens with PL-Mount is a wide-angle spherical prime that covers Vista Vision sensors. Wide-angle coverage takes in more of a location than the eye does, which suits establishing shots, landscapes, and interiors where the space carries the scene. A T1.4 maximum aperture puts this among the fastest cine glass available, giving very shallow depth of field and workable exposure in low light, and the lens closes to T22. It uses a PL-Mount with manual focus. Cooke /i metadata passes through the mount for post and VFX workflows.

Features

Key Features

Wide Vista Vision Coverage

The lens covers Vista Vision sensors, projecting a 46.3 mm image circle. A wide-angle field of view holds a subject and its surroundings in one frame, which is what establishing shots, interiors, and landscape work call for.

T1.4 Maximum Aperture

T1.4 puts this among the fastest cine glass available. Depth of field wide open is measured in inches at close range, which demands an experienced focus puller and rewards one with separation no slower lens produces. It closes to T22.

270° Focus Throw

Its 270° focus throw sits in the standard range for cine glass, spreading distance marks far enough apart for repeatable pulls without making a full rack slow.

Cooke /i Metadata

The lens reports focus distance, aperture, focal length, and serial number to the camera frame by frame. That metadata travels with the footage into post, where VFX can match a CG camera to the real one instead of measuring the set afterwards.

Mount & Rig Integration

PL-Mount

The lens mounts via PL-Mount, fitting industry-standard cinema cameras and adapting to most modern cinema and hybrid bodies.

0.8-Pitch Cine Gears

The lens carries 0.8-pitch cine gears, the standard pitch for follow focus units and lens motors. Compatibility with lens control systems lets a solo operator make consistent, repeatable focus pulls, or a camera assistant control the lens remotely.

104mm Front Diameter

The front element measures 104mm, which fits a compact matte box directly and steps up to a 114 mm clamp with an adapter ring. Matte box fit follows from this measurement rather than from the filter thread, since the clamp grips the outside of the barrel.

99mm Filter Thread

The front accepts 99mm screw-in filters behind a 104mm front element. A matte box clamps to the outside diameter instead, which is what most cine setups use to avoid re-threading filters between lenses.
