Overview

The Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm ƒ/2.8-4 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Photography Lens with MFT-Mount is an all-in-one 12-60mm zoom covering Micro Four Thirds sensors. A single range from wide through telephoto covers most of a day's shooting without a lens change, which travel and event photographers depend on. A fast ƒ/2.8 maximum aperture separates subject from background and keeps shutter speeds up as the light falls, closing to ƒ/22. Optical stabilization steadies the frame, widening the range of shutter speeds that can be used handheld. Autofocus lets the camera's own subject detection drive the lens, which is what makes it usable for tracking moving subjects and for video. It mounts via MFT-Mount. Closest focus is 7.9 in, for a maximum magnification of 1:3.3.

Features

Key Features

All-in-One Micro Four Thirds Coverage

The lens covers Micro Four Thirds sensors. A range spanning wide through telephoto covers a scene without a lens change, which travel and event work depend on.

ƒ/2.8 Maximum Aperture

A fast ƒ/2.8 aperture separates a subject from its background and holds shutter speed up in poor light, and the lens closes to ƒ/22.

Autofocus

The lens focuses under the camera's control, so hybrid shooters can use the body's own subject detection and tracking rather than pulling focus by hand — the difference between catching a moving subject and losing it.

Optical Image Stabilization

Optical stabilization compensates for hand movement, extending the range of shutter speeds usable handheld and steadying the frame for handheld video.

1:3.3 Maximum Magnification

A maximum magnification of 1:3.3 sets how large a small subject renders on the sensor, with a closest focus of 7.9 in.

62mm Filter Thread

Optical Design

12-60mm Zoom Range

The 12-60mm range covers a scene without a lens change, which travel, event and documentary work depend on.

9-Blade Diaphragm

9 blades hold the iris closer to a circle when stopped down, which keeps out-of-focus highlights round rather than polygonal — visible in portrait backgrounds and night work.

Mount & Build

MFT-Mount

The lens mounts via MFT-Mount, which sets the bodies it fits directly and those it reaches through an adapter.

Electronic Lens Communication

Contacts in the mount pass aperture, focus and focal length between lens and body, so exposure data is recorded to EXIF and in-camera corrections for distortion and vignetting apply automatically.
