Leitz Thalia 180mm T3.6 Cinema Lens with PL-Mount

Leitz, operating as Leitz Cine Wetzlar within the Leica Camera AG group, is a dedicated manufacturer of cinema lenses with a heritage tracing directly to the optical traditions of the Leitz and Leica brands. The company produces several distinct families of motion-picture primes, including the Leitz Prime and Leitz Elsie ranges built around the Large Format sensor format, and the Leitz Hugo and Leitz M 0.8 lines that adapt Leica M-mount photographic optics for cinematography use. Mounts span LPL and PL, with native compatibility across ARRI ALEXA Mini LF, Sony VENICE, RED V-RAPTOR, and other large-format and Super-35 cinema bodies.

Leitz's design philosophy emphasizes a coherent optical signature across its motion-picture range — warm tonality, controlled flare, and a softer rendering of skin tones — while maintaining the mechanical robustness expected of high-end cinema glass. The lenses are produced in Germany using optical formulas and manufacturing techniques shared with Leica's photographic line, positioning the brand as a premium choice for productions seeking distinctive characterization rather than clinical neutrality. Leitz's cinema portfolio is widely used on feature films, episodic productions, and high-end commercial work where a particular lens look is part of the creative brief, and the company often supplies through specialist rental houses rather than retail channels.
